Implementing a Business Operating System:
A Systems Approach for Achieving Bottom-Line Results

Establish Review Session

It is important to facilitate the first review session.  This becomes the prototype for future sessions that will be run entirely by the management team.

At the first review meeting, all champions present the results of their data collection assignment.  During this process, the team performs a critique of each measure, evaluates the appropriateness of the data, the way in which the data is displayed, and the ability of the existing system to generate accurate information.

In some cases, the team may decide to change a performance measure or to find alternative ways to collect the data.  At this stage of implementation, the team is very vulnerable and often needs some outside facilitation for the first few review meetings.  The value of the external facilitation is to maintain a focus on the process and to ensure that the team continues to apply a holistic approach in the types of measures selected.

Once the team begins to run their own meetings, it may be necessary to provide spot checks to ensure that the review system is being maintained.
