Implementation Process

We taught team roles and responsibilities and other team-building techniques followed by our strong Team Problem Solving training and one- and two-day training on Quality Operating System.

Armed with these tools, we spent a half-day with each team each week. Each team had weekly assignments with information requirements. The initial goal was to contain all problems so that no bad parts got to the customers. Then we worked to identify the root cause of each issue and solve the root cause.

Using the team assignments, we were able to track progress on all issues. As we solved the major quality and performance issues, we also addressed many people issues as well. The plant suffered from many of the same issues facing many manufacturing sites today, including: a messy and dark facility; language problems; employee dissatisfaction; lack of efficiency documents; lack of organization; and union petition activity.

An example of the results from data collection, as shown in the following tables, indicates the large impact engineering has on delivery time.
